Phonics with Katelyn

Here we are, the joys of getting your pre schooler to begin learning the basics of reading.  Letter sounds, word blending etc.  I found that Katelyn and I were more concerns with making sure the pictures were properly lined up.  As I watched her work, I thought "wow you are pretty anal for a four year old."  The letters had to be perfectly lined and the word cards had to be equally spaced out. I wonder where she gets it from.

Nonetheless I have learned a lot from her older brother, what works, what doesn't, what we have to do in order for them to succeed in Kindergarden.  Bottom line you have to put in the work, they don't magically learn the stuff and it is not only the  teacher's job to teach but the parents as well.

Katelyn and I had a pretty good time and its amazing to watch her come along.  As she prances around the house saying her name K-A-T-E-L-Y-N. I have to say she stopped me right on my tracks.  Can't wait to see her continue on her path of learning.  She always ask, "When am I going to get homework?"  Really Katelyn,  what a little book worm, you want homework?  Let's see how that goes when she gets her 10 page packet of homework, reading and sight words.  Oh I know, all of the sudden she is going to say, "Mommy I tired."  Surprise, surprise.
